ScamCheck Privacy Policy
Effective July 25, 2026ScamCheck is designed to help you inspect suspicious content while limiting what leaves your device. We do not sell personal information, show targeted advertising, or use checked content to build advertising profiles.
Checks on your device
Text extraction, QR recognition, initial message analysis, trusted-person preferences, and optional scan history are handled on your iPhone. History contains a generic check category, result, and recommended action—not the original message or image. You can disable history or delete it at any time in Privacy & Settings.
Live reputation checks
When you run a check containing indicators, the app may send detected URLs or sender domains to Google Web Risk, phone numbers to IPQualityScore, and compare links with a locally loaded URLhaus dataset. These services receive only the indicator needed for the lookup. A missing match never means an indicator is safe.
Full AI checks
When you choose a Full AI check, ScamCheck sends extracted message text and detected indicators through our service to Google Cloud Vertex AI. For selected screenshots, the app may also send a resized, re-encoded JPEG copy of up to four images so the model can evaluate visual presentation. Original files and photo metadata are not sent. ScamCheck processes this material to return the requested result and does not retain the raw text or images after the request is completed.
Service and purchase data
Our hosting and security providers may process ordinary network information, such as an IP address and request timing, to deliver and protect the service. A one-way identifier used for abuse prevention expires from active rate-limit memory after approximately ten minutes. Apple processes subscriptions and purchase history; ScamCheck receives Apple-signed transaction information only to verify access to paid features.
Sharing and protection
Our service providers are used only to operate the checks, purchases, hosting, and security described above. We require providers that receive user data to protect it to the same or an equivalent standard described in this policy. Their processing is also governed by their applicable privacy terms. We may disclose information if legally required or to protect users and the service.
Your choices, retention, and deletion
You can turn off “Use Full AI for every check,” avoid live checks, disable local history, and delete all local history in the app. Raw check content is retained by ScamCheck only for the duration needed to return the result. To ask a privacy question or request deletion of any data associated with a support interaction, contact us through the ScamCheck Support page. Removing the app deletes its local preferences and history from that device, subject to Apple backup behavior.
Children
ScamCheck is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
Material changes will be posted here and, when appropriate, explained in the app.
